2 Day Workshop Information Sheet.
Please note: Due to the first day being out in the wild, there is a a chance of cancellation due to weather conditions.

Day One - Focussed guided drawing on location.
Hengistbury Head Visitor Centre Courtyard Southbourne Dorset
10am - 2pm

Meet and greet at Hengistbury Head , including a short explanation of what we will be doing on day one.

Discussing the materials and methods we will be using to collect visual notes during the day, including sketch work, written notes, colour notes, photographs etc. Some materials will be provided and you will be encouraged to use materials you are familiar with and some you may not.

We will spend the rest of the morning at a chosen location on Hengistbury Head to be decided on the day - consideration will be given to weather conditions, wind direction, the light, and general 'whim'.

The tutors will each give a short demonstration showing the methods they personally use to collect the visual notes mentioned above and you will see that there are many ways of doing this, depending on what interests you about the scene/view.

We will break for lunch, bring a packed lunch.

After lunch we will continue sketching and note taking in the wild, gathering information.

At the end of the session we will have a round up and debrief - looking at work made and discussing how we might use it on day two.

Day Two - Experimental Printmaking using sketchwork.

​A short explanation of the format for the afternoon followed by...

A discussion of the work made on sight the previous day, considering and remembering elements of the day that we want to instil in our printwork, such as the weather, sounds, wildlife etc.

A short explanation of the printing presses being used (which are small portable adapted Xcut Xpress machines

Delegates will then introduced to their individual working stations which will include a work table, a small portable press and other materials.

The rest of the afternoon will be given over to exploratory printmaking as delegates explore simple ways of making prints from sketches.

At the end of the session we will gather again for a final show and tell, and discuss the work made and what we have learned from the workshop.
